BUYING

Before buying a puppy you need to be sure that you can provide the required levels of commitment, both practically and financially. To help you decide please ask yourself the following questions:

    - Can I afford a dog. This is not just the initial purchase, but also food, veterinary care and pet insurance;
    - Is my home big enough for a dog. Does the size of dog require me to have an outdoor area;
    - Do I have the time and energy to walk my dog every day;
    - How long do I spend away from home on a daily basis. Some dogs need more attention than others and may get lonely;
    - Do I have time to train and groom my dog;
    - And finally, remember a dog is a lifetime commitment.

If you’ve answered ‘yes’ to all these questions, why not check out our Breed Profile. This may help you to choose the right dog for your lifestyle.

PUPPY FARMS

We at The Dog House are against puppy farms. Puppy farms are large scale dog breeding facilities that operate under intolerable conditions. Puppies are bred for profit and are usually kept in damp dark kennels causing the development of chronic health problems, temperament issues, and hereditary defects.

When visiting your puppy, as a guide, please bear in mind the following:  Always insist on seeing both the puppy and mum together; Ask to view the other puppies, are they active and socialised?; Look at their living conditions if you can; Beware puppy farms can often offer you multiple choices of breeds; If the puppy is being sold too cheaply be suspicious. After all, you usually get what you pay for. Puppy farms can offer KC registered puppies, but if in doubt do not buy the puppy.

If you have welfare concerns contact the RSPCA.  You should also contact us, so that we can prevent the breeder from posting any further advertisements.

Thank you.
